Nebraska City and the public art project An Enchanted Arboretum will be featured on the newest installment of “Nebraska Stories” on NET April 6.
NET filmed the episode last September during the project’s live auction event at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park. The auction event raised more than $65,000 with a portion of the funds earmarked for potential community improvement projects.
Unveiled in late April 2013, An Enchanted Arboretum consists of 71 stylized tree sculptures designed by professional artists and Nebraska City students. The 6-foot professional trees are placed outdoor in public spaces throughout Nebraska City. The 4-foot student trees are can be found around town inside or outside businesses, city offices, and in private homes.
An Enchanted Arboretum was the pilot project of Nebraska City’s Arbor City Initiative, a grass-roots community effort dedicated to promoting the town as “Arbor Day’s Hometown—Where Great Ideas Grow.”

The project featured professional artists from all over the region including many from Lincoln and Omaha as well as others from outlying areas such as Friend, Firth, Martell, and Gretna. The nearest participating artist lives in Nebraska City, the farthest away from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Artist designs include glass mosaic, Native American fables, the changing seasons, flowers, wildlife, biblical stories, and more.
The “Nebraska Stories” episode will premiere on Sunday, April 6th, at 9 p.m. on NET1. A repeat of the program will run Friday, April 11th, at 7 p.m.
